On a Chemotaxis Model with Saturated Chemotactic Flux

چکیده
We propose a PDE chemotaxis model, which can be viewed as a regularization of the Patlak-Keller-Segel (PKS) system. Our modification is based on a fundamental physical property of the chemotactic flux function—its boundedness. This means that the cell velocity is proportional to the magnitude of the chemoattractant gradient only when the latter is small, while when the chemoattractant gradient tends to infinity the cell velocity saturates. Unlike the original PKS system, the solutions of the modified model do not blow up in either finite or infinite time in any number of spatial dimensions, thus making it possible to use bounded spiky steady states to model cell aggregation. After obtaining local and global existence results, we use the local and global bifurcation theories to show the existence of one-dimensional spiky steady states; we also study the stability of bifurcating steady states. Finally, we numerically verify these analytical results, and then demonstrate that solutions of the two-dimensional model with nonlinear saturated chemotactic flux function typically develop very complicated spiky structures. 2000 Mathematics Subject Classification. Survival and Chemotactic Behavior of H pylori at Different Media pH
Background: H pylori is a human gastric pathogen. Chemotaxis is an essential factor in colonization of H pylori, but very little is known about its chemotactic responses at different pH conditions, especially in acidic environment of stomach as its natural habitant. Methods: We first determined survival of H pylori under various pH conditions in the presence and absence of urea. Chemotaxis was...
متن کاملI-8: Sperm Chemotaxis towards Progesterone,A Guiding Mechanism That May Be Used to Select The Best Spermatozoa for Assisted Reproduction
Background: Spermatozoa are able to sense an attractant molecule gradient and as a consequence, orient their movement towards the source of the attractant. This mechanism is known as sperm chemotaxis. In recent years, our laboratory contributed to the knowledge of several features of mammalian sperm chemotaxis. These include the size and physiological state of the chemotactic sperm population, ...

Objective(s) Motility plays a major role in pathogenicity of Helicobacter pylori, yet there is scarce data regarding its chemotactic behaviour. The present study was designed to investigate the chemotactic responses of local isolates of H. pylori towards various sugars, amino acids, as well as some other chemical substances. متن کاملTraveling Wave and Aggregation in a Flux-Limited Keller-Segel Model
Flux-limited Keller-Segel (FLKS) model has been recently derived from kinetic transport models for bacterial chemotaxis and shown to represent better the collective movement observed experimentally. Recently, associated to the kinetic model, a new instability formalism has been discovered related to stiff chemotactic response. This motivates our study of traveling wave and aggregation in popula...
متن کاملSelf-organized pattern formation of run-and-tumble chemotactic bacteria: Instability analysis of a kinetic chemotaxis model
Collective motion of chemotactic bacteria as E. Coli relies, at the individual level, on a continuous reorientation by runs and tumbles. It has been established that the length of run is decided by a stiff response to a temporal sensing of chemical cues along the pathway. We describe a novel mechanism for pattern formation stemming from the stiffness of chemotactic response relying on a kinetic...
